Tefzel (ETFE) Machining, Fabricating & Distribution

Home Tefzel (ETFE) Machining, Fabricating & Distribution

    What is Tefzel?

Tefzel™ ETFE (ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene) is a Teflon brand resin material. It can be melted and formed. And it has a reputation for excellent physical toughness and resistance to radiation, chemicals, UV, and extreme temperatures. It can be customized for desired color, reinforcement, and conductivity levels. Therefore, it can be used in a variety of high-performance products and components.

What can you make with Tefzel?

According to the Teflon website, Tefzel resin material can be molded and used for a variety of applications. It is available in pellets and powder, and can be used for:

    • Electrical insulation and heat-shrinkable tubing
    • Wire and cable, including wrapped computer terminations, heavy power circuits, steel mill cables, airframe wire, downhole well logging cable, and rapid transit car and locomotive control wire
    • Load-bearing applications in abusive environments
    • Cable and hydraulic line clamps, cable straps, and other fasteners
    • Valve linings
    • Pressure-sensitive tapes, flexible printed circuits, liquid pouches, and other constructions needing a film form
    • Biomedical and labware equipment, including oxygen respirator components, blood analyzer valves, evaporating dishes, and centrifuge tubes

    Pros of using Tefzel resins

Tefzel™ ETFE resins are very versatile. They offer relatively low melting points and high-melt flow rates (MFRs). This makes them easy to process by conventional melt-extrusion techniques and injection-, compression-, transfer-, rotational-, and blow-molding processes.

    • can be extruded or injection-molded with easy
    • chemically resistant
    • hydrolytically stable
    • weather resistant
    • resistant to cuts, dents, and scrapes
    • heat resistant
    • radiation resistant

    Cons of using Tefzel resins

The disadvantages of using Tefzel include:

    • insulation tends to soften at high temperatures
    • can be degraded by gamma radiation

What industries is Tefzel used in?

Tefzel™ ETFE resins are used in many industries. Tefzel is used in automotive, oil & gas, film, electronics, cabling, and various other manufacturing fields. Different grades have different applications, including:

    • electrical insulation
    • electrical tubing
    • power circuits
    • printed circuits
    • steel mill cables
    • valve linings
    • load-bearing applications
    • cable and hydraulic line clamps
    • pressure-sensitive tapes
    • biomedical equipment
    • lab equipment
